s 52E EXCEIENCE CF SYRUP OF FIGS 'is due not only to the originality and simplicity of the combination, but also o the care and skill with which it is manufactured by scientific processes Icsown to the California. Fia Sybup Co. only, and we wish to impress upon 11 the importance of purchasing the true and original remedy. As the ijjcnutne Syrup of Figs is manufactured toy the California Fig SyRUP Co. only, a knowledge of that fact will assist one in avoiding- the worthless imitations manufactured by other pa -tics. The high standing of the Cali yocKiA Fro Sykcp Co. with the medi cal profession, and the satisfaction which the genuine Syrup of Figs has given to millions of families, makes the name of the Company a guaranty the excellence of its remedy. It is ian in advance of all other laxatives, . ats it acts on the kidneys, liver and wels without irritating or weaken them, and it does not gripe nor aiaoscate. Although Lauren Pease, who sings to night at the pavilion needs no introduc tion to a Dalles audience after last might's performance, we publish a few nevepaper clippings found in Minnesota papers : . In eneasinz of his rendition of the part of "Frederick" in "Pirates of Pen zuiei" a Fairbault paper says: "He surprised his warmest admirers and the Sfeaeral verdict was that his singing has never been excelled by a tenor voice on tbe Fairbault stage." A. fleasant foint paper thus com ments: "Mr. Pease sang a number of selections in a rich tenor voice that car ried the listeners far awav in a dream land mood, which was broken with re lactance when the songs were con ' laded." Lauren S. Pease, Jr,. did not fail in tiis efforts to please, as he never, has. Sie eang in a rich, clear voice of 'excep tioaal sweetness, and never did violin sod voice harmonize more sweetly, as in liia eoto "Answer," which was eung wvth deep feeling and expression, and "' Ste threw his whole soul into his encore, ".ove''8 Sorrow." His enunciation was pleasfng characteristic. Pilot. Mr. Pease has consented to sing L.newer" this evening also "I Love Thee" by Buck; "Cavatina," Faust; 3iK First I Met Thee," Rubenstein ; "Ootafert Ye My People" from Handel's Xft-saia-k. Sherman county is apparently more interested in The Dalles and -Fossil wagon road than are the peopl9 of south ern Gilliam county, although the latter will undoubtedly receive more benefit from the road than the former. The Dalles at first promised liberal support for this road, but went equare back on giving aid when the railroad went out to Wasco, which makes that a nearer railroad point to thiB section than The Dalles. Bat if The Dalles could but eee it, it is that city, the head of .navigation, that will be by far the greatest bene ficiary. Of course, if we could get an open river to Arlingtou, there would be very little need for this road, but we very much fear, that an open liver from Arlington to the sea is a long way off, and will never be realized while Eastern Oregon has a Dalles man in congress Therefore, let us all work with a will for the wairon road to The Dalles, even in spite of the lack of interest in the pro ject shown by the short-sighted business men of that place.
